Just Good Enough

The first time most people will see your artwork is from a digital image, print, or slide ... not the original work. First impressions DO matter! Are your images the best they can be, or are they just good enough?

People DO judge the quality of the artwork and your professionalism as an artist from the images they see. Distracting backgrounds, crooked placement, uneven lighting, or dull colors all detract from your artwork and don't invite a juror to select it. I've seen it all, and it never ceases to amaze me that artists who produce high-quality artwork don't also have high-quality images of that artwork.

If you don't know what a top-quality image looks like, ask around or look on the web. And if you're not using the best images, invest the time to learn how to take better photos of your artwork. Or hire a professional photographer. But don't settle for images that are just good enough.
